General Curriculum

Catholic Education
aims to teach the whole child. A cooperative learning program is
utilized.
In the primary
grades, emphasis is placed on Math, Integrated Language Arts, and
Religion. Science and Social Studies are taught, but not graded. Music,
Physical Education, Computer Education, and Spanish are all part of the
weekly curriculum.
In grades 4 - 8,
all subjects are graded. French is taught in grades 6 - 8.
Religious Education

Religion, as
taught in school, is a way of life, not merely one other subject. The
Religion class lays the foundation for the formation of attitudes and
the building of principles upon which the child will base his/her life.
All children are required to take Religion classes and attend liturgical
and para liturgical services. Students are provided the opportunity to
attend weekly school mass, monthly adoration and exposition of the
Blessed Sacrament, and periodic reception of Reconciliation.
Language Program

Spanish is offered
to Pre-School through fifth grades in cooperation with Northern Arizona
University's Educational System Programming. The purpose of this program
is for students to become familiar with the Spanish language and the
culture of the people who speak it. This is accomplished through
videotapes, songs, and other activities in which the children learn
conversation and vocabulary related to family, school, plants, animals,
colors, numbers, etc.
French is required
of those students in sixth through eighth grades who have a command of
the English language. Each year students learn a third of first year
French and have the opportunity to advance to French 2 in 9th grade.
Testing
Program

Early
Prevention of School Failure Tests - this is administered to
students prior to entering Kindergarten to determine developmental

with parents.
Iowa Test of
Basic Skills - this is a standardized testing program that is
administered during the first quarter to all students in grades 3 - 8.
The test is taken by students across the nation including those in our
Harrisburg Diocese. Our school results are compared nationally and
regionally.
- students in grades 5 and 8 also take the Cognitive
Abilities Test (CogAT) as part of the the IOWA test.
